William John Dempster, 83, a retired marketing executive who worked for the Kearfott division of General Precision, a subsidiary of The Singer Company, for 30 years, passed away on February 2, 2010. Mr. Dempster was an Army veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and a Presidential Unit Citation for the heroic actions of his infantry company in the 94th Division's opposed crossing of Germany's Saar River, February 1945.

Mr. Dempster was born in Astoria, NY and raised in Roselle Park, NJ, residing later with his family in Roselle and Summit, NJ. A longtime resident of Kensington, MD, he recently moved to Riderwood Village in nearby Silver Spring. He graduated in 1951 from Lehigh University and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. At the time of his death he was a member of the Georgetown Presbyterian Church, Washington D.C. and previously had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Roselle and the Summit Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ann Bain Dempster, four children, and nine grandchildren. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 9, at Gray's Funeral Home in Westfield, NJ. The family will greet friends from 10 – 11 AM with interment at the Fairview Cemetery in Westfield immediately following the funeral service at 11.
